State of the art in mining environmental risk assessment and management. Solutions and Techniques in the European Union
Mining provides the most essential input to modern industrial development but it also produces the second largest waste stream in the world and it can cause wide-spread contamination risking human health, life quality, ecosystems and safe food supply. Sustainable extractive industry requires the joint effort of government, industry, scientific research and technology development organisations and the society. This study presents state-of-the-art mining environmental risk assessment and management as an efficient decision support tool that provides solutions and techniques in the European Union. Theory and methods are reviewed and application cases are demonstrated in the EU, China, Turkey and elsewhere.
