Stephen is a Mining Engineer with over15 years’ experience of providing consultancy services to the minerals industry, with particular specialisation in tailings dewatering and mine backfill. He has a Mining Engineering degree from Camborne School of Mines in the UK, and is a chartered engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. Stephen is the Managing Director of Paterson & Cooke in the UK, having established the business in 2013.

The management of tailings in a socially and economically responsible way presents one of the single largest challenges to the mining industry today. This presentation will look at conventional wet tailings systems and their associated challenges.
It will provide perspectives on addressing these challenges, initially by reducing waste generation, and then, how through the adoption of alternative technologies, industry can achieve improved tailings management solutions.
